title. Music Boxes
company. Manchester International Festival
role. Trainee Producer (MIF Creative)
location. Media City (Salford) and various schools in Greater Manchester
date. October 2010 - October 2011
I trained as a producer in the large team at MIF; the world's first festival of original, new work and special events which takes place biennially. The Festival launched in 2007 as an artist-led, commissioning Festival presenting new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture. For the 2011 festival, I supported the Senior Producer and the Director of Creative Learning in the development, coordination and delivery of "Music Boxes"; a major new, outdoor, site-specific children and families commission, located on a large plaza at Media City UK. Key roles were to support the Senior Producer in liaising with participating artists/companies and to produce and deliver an engagement programme involving 17 artist residencies, 21 children's centres and schools and over 1800 participants.
I also assisted on other shows for the 2011 Festival, including Victoria Wood's "That Day We Sang" and "Sacred Sites", a commission that invited international artists to showcase different musical expressions of religious faith in sacred sites across the city. Throughout my contract with MIF, I assisted on the research and development stage of a Vertical Farm project, which later came to fruition as "The Biospheric Project" for the 2013 festival.
